Information on kindles?

I read alot and im thinking on maybe getting a kindle eReader. im 14 and need one under $300. i want to get a 3g one since i like reading in the car. How much are the books? can you do more than read novels? How do you like it if you have one? I really am not sure if i want to get one or to save my money plzz help me.
